Hi, I'm Rachel of Rachel's Magic Marketer.........
I was born and raised in a hard working, middle class family in Saint Louis, Missouri. Though we always had our basic needs met, and by no means lived in poverty, we definitely didn’t live a life of abundance, and I always saw my parents struggle and stress about money in my childhood. I learned that you had to work hard to make money. I was taught that if you wanted to be financially comfortable, you needed to go to college, work hard, get a degree, and then find a good job for 40 hours a week that would pay you well. Then, after many years, if you planned it all out right, you could save and then maybe retire someday with a cushion to be able to enjoy your golden years.
That was the only way to financial security, and I was never told that there was any alternative options. So, I did what I was supposed to. I went to a good university, spent 4 years working full time and earning my psychology degree, to eventually graduate with a bachelors and a 3.7 GPA. After college, I wanted to use what I had worked so hard to earn, so I took a social work position at a not for profit organization working with mentally ill adults because, I was interested in the human brain, and had always wanted to help people. It was about that time that the first cracks began to appear in this "perfect" system I had been sold about how I was supposed to be able to obtain financial stability. The first crack appeared when I had to take a $3.50 per hour pay cut from my college country club waitress job that required no degree, to be able to take a job that required a degree as a social worker. Although this seemed ridiculously paradoxical, I convinced myself that I could go back to school, get my masters or doctorate degree, and then I would be earning the big bucks, and this was a stepping stone toward that end,. I sucked up the financial hit and took the pay cut. Unfortunately, life doesn’t always cooperate, and after I got pregnant with my first child, I never went back to school.
After having my second child, and working 2 jobs for years, social worker during the week, and a waitress on the weekends to help support my family, my children’s father was diagnosed with a rare and terminal sinus cancer. He passed away about six months later and left me alone to financially support our children, with no savings or life insurance. That is when I began my entrepreneurial journey, determined to find a way to make a good living, and still be able to be a big part of my children’s lives. I was done trading my time for dollars, and ready to fulfill my own dreams instead of working to fulfill someone else’s!
The first 2 years, however, was very difficult! I had no business education, and limited computer skills, and tried just about everything available online without success. No one really believed in me, and my family kept telling me that I just needed to give up, and go back to working an hourly job. I’m not a quitter though, and I refused to give up! After many nights of crying myself to sleep, I finally found a mentor to help me build a business that could actually be successful! When I was finally on the road to achieving my dreams of financial independence, I wanted to help other people like me who are tired of working to fulfill someone else’s dream, and ready to start fulfilling their own dreams.
